It seems only yesterday that I embarked on a course as a self employed, self taught artist and tutor. Ten years have flashed by and I continue to explore this amazing one-time hobby, attempting to inspire others as did my mentor Graham Painter and other artists like Turner and Seago and more lately Monet and Cezanne (see below). I now explore most media and have been experimenting with acrylics and pastel as a mixed media which I really enjoy doing and it seems to go down well at demonstrations and workshops alike. I now cover art groups across Essex and into Kent and Hertfordshire and have undertaken art holidays in France, Italy and Sardinia and shortly will be setting off to Portugal (see appropriate pages). For those of you who do not know me here is some of my background. As a self-taught artist, I have painted since childhood exploring drawing, water-colour and oil painting in my formative years. I obtained a Fine Art “A” level back in 1970 and afterwards was encouraged by work colleagues to persevere with my paintings and drawings, undertaking a few commissions on the way. I discovered pastel in 1996, mistakenly thinking I was going to a watercolour weekend workshop - a stroke of luck for me.

Pastels lit a fire in me I had never experienced. There was a real urgency and vitality in my painting and those pastels released an energy I did not know I had. Since then, my early retirement and the building of my studio in Hutton, Essex I continue to develop my art career.

My art materials travel with me everywhere and I enjoy capturing local scenes and work “en plein air” whenever I can. I have entered local and national competitions and exhibitions with some success. I undertake commissions and teach workshops from my studio, give demonstrations to art groups across the south east and teach local art groups. Pastel, acrylic and water-colour full and half day workshops are now regular events and well attended with very positive feedback.

Some of my paintings have been reproduced into greeting cards and prints of various sizes. These vary from year to year and samples are on my web site. I also offer to produce a greeting card to commission clients at good discounts.
